The Victorian Specialist Immunisation Services (VicSIS) at Austin Health provide specialist vaccination services for patients who have experienced an adverse event following immunisation (AEFI), or those who are identified as at risk of an AEFI.

With specialist review, most people are able to proceed to future vaccination following an AEFI.

Services offered include:

  • clinical consultation (telehealth and in-person)
  • individualised vaccination recommendations
  • targeted allergy testing
  • supervised vaccine challenge.

Whilst VicSIS services were established to support the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines, the Austin Health VicSIS team is open to referrals related to any vaccine product. For example:

  • COVID-19 vaccine
  • Influenza vaccine
  • Monkeypox vaccine

If you identify a patient with a reported AEFI or who is at risk of an AEFI from any vaccine product, please refer them to the Austin Health VicSIS team for assessment. Please send referrals to: vicsis@austin.org.au

Clinicians can visit HealthPathways Melbourne for the latest clinical and referral advice on AEFIs.
