  • Practice Nurse (1-2 days a week)

    Summerhill Medical Centre (SMC) in Reservoir, an accredited practice, is offering a casual position for a registered nurse (Div I preferred).

    The position is for 1-2 days per week (relieving S/L and A/L) and has the potential for more hours in the future.

    Preference for a nurse with some general practice experience, but will consider training the right applicant.

    SMC nurses assist doctors in providing individualised, patient-centered care plans reflective of current best practices and guidelines.

    Nurses also provide lots of patient education and support to help patients optimize their health outcomes.

    Treatment room duties such as wound care, assisting with minor procedures, and vaccinations might also be required.

    SMC is involved in ongoing Quality Improvement activities and offers a supportive Nursing Team Leader and lots of interesting CPD opportunities.

    Responsibilities:

    The receptionist is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties and maintaining the presentation of a professional medical practice.

    Read in conjunction with the practice policy and procedure manual.

    The receptionist’s duties include:

    • fax, scan and file documents
    • open, stamp incoming mail and post outgoing mail daily
    • check email and the correspondence in Outlook. Communications well documented for all staff via emails and Outlook
    • answer the telephone, taking appointment in a courteous and professional manner
    • perform accurate data entry of patients’ details and update record regularly
    • receive and convey messages in writing, verbally and electronically
    • respect patient’s / staff confidentiality in the waiting room
    • bill patients and receipt moneys by cash and the use of EFTPOS machine
    • daily reconciliation of billing and receipts
    • clean consulting rooms and maintain cleanliness of the practice
    • ensure all occupational health and safety policies and procedures are followed
    • ensure all faxes, printers and copiers are stocked with paper and change cartridge when indicated
    • ensure the doctor’s room is equipped with office and medical supplies as needed
    • inform the Practice Manager the purchase the office and medical supply upon approval and sign for deliveries when necessary
    • cold chain management and monthly stocktake of all immunisations
    • monthly notifications on all recall systems
    • notifications of old x-rays to be picked up
    • monthly stocktake of drug samples
    • recording of petty cash
    • follow and update Practice Manuals regularly for routine procedures
    • any other administrative duties as directed by the senior receptionist.

    Essentials qualifications and experience:

    • excellent interpersonal skills
    • able to communicate effectively with a variety of people
    • able to work independently and as part of a team
    • CPR and First Aid Certificate
    • computer Knowledge
    • understanding of Medical Director and PracSoft and medical terminology an advantage.

    Skills and experience

    • Current RN, AHPRA registration

    • Managing medical stock and budgets for medical stock
    • Immunisations and travel vaccinations
    • Professional indemnity cover
    • Great attitude, initiative, enthusiasm, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • Medical Director/Pracsoft experience preferred
    • Wound care and experience assisting minor surgical procedures
    • Usual duties and responsibilities
    • Immunisations as well as immunisations of children and adults under supervision of a GP
    • Vaccine stock management and cold chain maintenance supervision
    • Treatment room management (stock ordering and treatment room budgets)
    • Clinical stock control
    • Ensuring doctors rooms and other clinical areas are stocked with appropriate equipment (medical consumables)
    • Be responsible for ensuring adequate numbers of care plan items are booked and completed each week
    • Patient coordination, triage etc
    • Recalls and reminder system maintenance (mostly automated with HotDoc)
    • Assist in maintaining a high level of triage quality within the clinic
    • Infection control management for the clinic, including ensuring compliance with policies, training new and existing staff, keeping abreast of current standards (RACGP and Department of Health)
    • Demonstrate high attention to detail when dealing with patient, clinic, and billing information
    • Maintain accurate and reliable clinical records for the work you complete
    • Review and update clinic policies that require nursing involvement
