North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) is committing $250,000 to evaluate the effectiveness of our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) Suicide Prevention Trial.
The trial is working to reduce the impacts of suicide on the LGBTIQ population, reduce stigma and increase awareness and capacity of community and services to support LBGTIQ people effected by suicide. There are 12 trials being rolled out across Australia, with each area focusing on a vulnerable population.
LGBTIQ Australians experience significantly poorer mental health outcomes and there is a higher incidence of suicide and self-harm than the general population.
This tender will focus on precuring an independent evaluator to examine the overall effectiveness of the design and consultation process of the trial, along with NWMPHN’s progress in meeting the key objectives of the interventions.
The successful applicant will also be required to contribute to the currently lacking evidence base for LGBTIQ suicide prevention.
The evaluation’s findings and recommendations will inform the development of future suicide prevention programs for the LGBTIQ community.
A collaborative partnership is encouraged in order to meet the requirements of this tender, along with the involvement of representatives from the LGBTIQ community.
It is anticipated that the ongoing evaluation activities will be required until December 2020.
