The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program (NBCSP) continues to operate as usual, including the implementation of biennial screening. A new Program FOBT kit, and associated pathology services (provided by Sonic Healthcare) was introduced in January 2018.
New resources are available at cancerscreening.gov.au/bowel including ‘home test kit’ instructions, a ‘how to do the test’ video and consumer information booklet.
Primary healthcare providers are key to motivating and supporting participation in bowel screening. A new fact sheet Promoting the Program in General Practice is also available on the website.
The current program register will continue to be operated by the Department of Human Services until transition to the National Cancer Screening Register occurs, which at this stage is expected to be in 2019.
