Planned Surgery Reform Blueprint release

With the core aim of reforming the entire planned care sector within the State, the Victorian Department of Health has released its Planned Surgery Reform Blueprint.

Containing ten key reforms spanning the entire health system, the blueprint is a workplan for the Department and its key stakeholders as it sets about reforms for the system to address challenges, from even prior to the pandemic.

Reforms will ultimately mean more Victorians are getting the care they need and deserve in better times, with less waiting.

One of the reforms is dedicated to enhancing primary care integration in the perioperative patient journey. The department’s Planned Care Recovery and Reform’s online statewide Community of Practice on Tuesday 19 March 2024 from 2.00-3.30pm, will focus on this reform. PHN members are invited to this free event and can request an invitation by emailing surgicalreform@health.vic.gov.au.

The line up of presenters include RACGP Victorian Council Chair Dr Anita Munoz, Safer Care Victoria’s Perioperative Health Learning team, the department’s Improving Clinical Handover Program team and a regional Victorian health service that has collaborated with its local GPs to distribute timely patient discharge summaries.

Same day surgery resource for primary care is now available!

Safer Care Victoria’s Perioperative Learning Health Network has released a new patient resource on same day surgery. This resource is available in multiple languages and designed to guide patients and healthcare teams on how best to prepare and what to expect from day surgery (Preparing for day surgery).
