The North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) region has a dedicated and skilled primary care workforce. However, it is facing many challenges of a changing world.
With an ageing population, increased long-term, complex conditions and increased mental health conditions, we need to recalibrate our system for the future. We also need to tailor care to the people in our communities, each with their unique life experiences, cultures and individual care needs.
In response, NWMPHN, is developing a person-centred primary care strategy. This three-year strategy will shape how we will:
- Shift the way primary care is delivered so that services are designed around people – not diseases.
- Work with primary care providers and clinicians to improve the way primary care is delivered.
What is working well and what is not working so well?
As part of developing our strategy, we want to hear from you – the workforce in our region who deliver primary care. We want to know what is working well and what is not working so well.

Who do we want to hear from?
We want to hear from people who provide primary care in central, northern or western Melbourne. We would like to hear from the broad range of people who make up the primary care workforce. This includes general practice, allied health (for example: dieticians, exercise physiologists, occupational therapists, optometrists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, psychologists, social workers and speech pathologists), community health care providers and community pharmacists.
What happens next?
The themes and stories from the surveys, focus groups and interviews will be directly used to inform our strategy. The strategy will be released towards the end of 2020.
