Working with the Nephrologist is a case study-based activity that identifies some common complications in CKD stages 4 and 5. A suitable management plan to slow the progression of CKD stage 4 in the setting of diabetic nephropathy will be discussed along with treatment options in kidney failure and when to refer to a nephrologist.

Early referral to nephrologist services results in a significant reduction of CKD progression. Therefore, timely referral to nephrology care with optimized management and medical treatment prolongs the time at which dialysis or renal replacement therapy commences.
