TOPIC 1 presented by DR TARANA LUCKY, Gynaecologist & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon

Endometriosis affects about one in seven women assigned female gender at birth. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, there were more than 3,600 endometriosis-related emergency department presentations in 2021-22. Early diagnosis and treatment can help with disease progression and improves patients’ QOL. Awareness of the various clinical presentations of endometriosis (including a range of GI symptoms) is crucial for early diagnosis and management initiation. Finally, a holistic, patient-centred, trauma-informed and multidisciplinary care approach is essential for optimal patient outcome.

TOPIC 2 presented by DR TAMARA MOGILEVSKI, Gastroenterologist

Endometriosis is a condition which effects 1 in 10 women during their fertile years. Gastrointestinal symptoms contribute to a high degree of morbidity in this patient population and can be difficult to distinguish from symptoms of endometriosis. Taking away some of the gut symptoms, and teaching patients how to manage them, can greatly help ease the disease burden for patients living with endometriosis.

Dr Tamara Mogilevski will present patient cases for whom this approach has made a significant impact.
