Cultural awareness training face-to-face

This seven hour workshop, comprising of six hours face-to-face and one hour pre-session work is designed to provide health care professionals with practical skills for engaging effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients. Participants gain insight into factors influencing First Nations patients and families, by exploring the enduring impact of history on Aboriginal health and mental wellbeing.

Led by respected Wiradjuri social worker AJ' Williams - Tchen, this training provides a comprehensive introduction to Aboriginal cultural safety. It helps participants develop a foundational understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, identities, and cultures, alongside practical strategies for integrating cultural safety into your daily practice.

AJ Williams-Tchen - Girraway Ganyi Consultancy

AJ Williams-Tchen is an award-winning Wiradjuri social worker, nurse and youth worker with over 35 years experience in health and community services with Aboriginal communities across Australia. AJ was awarded the 2021 AASW Aboriginal Social Worker of the Year, Allied Health Awards Social Worker of the Year 2023, and was a 2024 Australian of the Year nominee.
