Opportunities to join our Clinical Council and shape the health of our region

  19 May 2020  NWMPHN

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network’s (NWMPHN’s) Clinical Council and Community Advisory Council contribute significantly to the positive impact NWMPHN has on the health of our community. NWMPHN is currently seeking expressions of interest to join our Clinical Council.

Help shape the future of primary health care services in our region

The role of the Clinical Council is to inform decisions related to:

  • The way we engage with clinicians
  • Planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of services
  • Integrating models of care

The role of the Clinical Council is particularly important for shaping the commissioning environment in which we identify new services and improve existing ones. The Council is a key part of the commissioning framework that is at the heart of what Primary Health Networks do.

Council members are encouraged to provide clinical insight on the unique needs of the region. They help develop the principles and mechanisms for engaging local health and care providers across general practice, community, hospitals and other health care settings.

Who can join?

NWMPHN is committed to ensuring a diverse and broad representation across the Clinical Council. We are seeking expressions of interest from the following specialities to provide unique insight into the health and wellbeing needs and experiences of their communities:

  • Practice nurse
  • Maternal child health nurse
  • Private allied health professional
  • Psychiatry

What is involved?

Members are expected to attend four meetings a year and are encouraged to provide feedback and engage in out of session discussions. Council members are eligible to be remunerated for their time in line with NWMPHN’s Stakeholder Reimbursement Policy.

How to apply

If you are interested, please email councils@nwmphn.org.au outlining your experience, why you would like to be involved in the Council and how you will provide a broad perspective from your respective clinical group/specialty.

Applications close on Sunday, 31 May 2020.

More information for psychiatrists about mental health commissioning

NWMPHN commissions a broad range of services and programs to keep people healthy in the community. We apply a person-centred approach to commissioning. This means we match supports to individuals’ specific needs.

Our mental health, suicide prevention, and alcohol and other drug services include:

  1. Low intensity psychological interventions (treatments that require relatively less resources and/or are cost-saving) for people with, or at risk of, mild mental illness.
  2. Psychological therapies delivered by mental health professionals to under-serviced groups.
  3. Early intervention services for children and young people with, or at risk of, mental illness.
  4. Services for people with severe and complex mental illness who are being managed in a primary care setting.
  5. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health services.
  6. A regional (or local) approach to suicide prevention activities with a focus on improved follow-up for people who have attempted suicide or are at high risk of suicide.

NWMPHN also commissions psychosocial support services to assist people who are not eligible for the NDIS but require assistance to participate in daily living activities.
