North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network welcomes the release of recommendations from a Department of Health review into the commissioning of headspace Melton.

NWMPHN conducted the commissioning process to select the consortium to implement and operate the new headspace service in Melton. headspace Melton opened in September 2018 and has been providing a valuable service to the young people of Melton and their families since then.

Following an appeal by an unsuccessful tenderer, management consultancy Deloitte was appointed to independently assess the tender process. The review found that the tender process was fair and non-discriminatory, while also highlighting some areas where we could improve.

The Department of Health has now asked NWMPHN to re-tender for the provision of headspace services in Melton. We are working with the Department to ensure that young people in the Melton area receive the best health care available.

Improving mental health and wellbeing for our community is one of our core priorities and is our largest work area. Late last year we published an overview of some of our mental health commissioning for 2017-18, which is available at https://nwmphn.org.au/priority-area-topic/mental-health-commissioning-2017-18/

Our ‘System of Care’ provides a stepped care approach to mental health, alcohol and other drug, suicide prevention and related support for people in our region. You can find more information on our System of Care along with a presentation giving an overview of our mental health services here.
