Primary Care CVD Virtual Roadshow , next stop, North Western Melbourne! Calling primary care professionals - join us for our next CVD Virtual Roadshow, featuring local experts A/Prof Nicholas Cox, Dr Amani Hanna and Sanji Dahal, on 9 September 2025.

Following the success of 12 national CVD virtual roadshows delivered to general practice teams across Australia, we are excited to continue our journey with our next roadshow designed specifically for primary care health professionals in the North Western Melbourne PHN (NWMPHN) region. Delivered in partnership with NWMPHN, the roadshow is designed to provide practical, evidence-based strategies to support primary care with the identification, assessment and management of CVD risk. 

In 90 minutes of live presentations including Q&A you will hear from local experts, A/Prof Nicholas Cox , Dr Amani Hanna and practice nurse Sanji Dahal around the latest CVD risk assessment recommendations including the practical application of the 2023 Australian Guideline for assessing and managing cardiovascular disease risk and Aus CVD Risk calculator.

Speakers

Associate Professor Nicholas Cox is an interventional cardiologist with an interest in infarct angioplasty and cardiogenic shock. Nicholas was an early advocate for the use of radial access for coronary intervention and has published in this field. A/Prof Cox consults in all aspects of general cardiology, including the diagnosis and management of patients presenting with coronary disease, heart attack and chest pain. He currently is a Director of the Heart Foundation Advisory Board and on the Epworth Hospital Cardiac Sciences Clinical Institute Committee. He is the Director of Cardiology for Western Health (Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals) where he manages the largest acute infarct angioplasty service in the state of Victoria. 

Dr. Amani Hanna is a seasoned medical professional at Lincolnville Medical Centre. She is a distinguished female physician with a particular emphasis on Dermatology and skin-related issues. Her expertise extends to Women’s and Children’s Health, making her a well-rounded healthcare provider. Besides English, she also fluently communicates in Arabic, broadening her ability to cater to a diverse patient population.

Ms Sanjibani (Sanji) Dahal is a highly experienced Registered Nurse with over 25 years in healthcare and a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) with extensive clinical expertise. She has worked in both hospital settings and various general practices across Melbourne’s north and west. Sanji has a strong interest in reversing Type 2 Diabetes and provides personalised care to adults living with Type 1, Type 2, pre-diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Sanji is passionate about person-centred care, particularly supporting individuals from multicultural backgrounds, and tailors her approach to meet each patient’s unique needs. 

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and assess risk factors on the latest clinical risk assessment recommendations incorporating new evidence on CVD risk factors, imaging and biomarkers  
  • Navigate local referral pathways for CVD risk factor management and review 
  • Describe strategies for the management of high blood pressure and cholesterol, nutrition and other lifestyle support strategies  
  • Summarise application of Heart Health Checks, including available resources for the general practice team. Participants will be encouraged to systematically embed Heart Health Checks as part of routine care.
