Urological health is an essential component of overall wellbeing yet members of the LGBTQIA+ community can face barriers to inclusive and equitable care. Urologist Dr Deanne Soares will provide GPs with the knowledge and confidence to provide respectful, culturally sensitive and clinically appropriate care to members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Dr Soares will outline key considerations in practice environment, communication, examination, referral pathways, and ongoing management of urological conditions across diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. This will highlight how GPs can make small but impactful changes in their general practice setting.
Learning outcomes:
- Outline common barriers LGBTQIA+ individuals face when accessing urological and general medical care.
- Identify inclusive language and communication strategies in history taking and patient interactions.
- Promote inclusivity in the general practice environment to support ongoing engagement and trust with LGBTQIA+ patients.
