There are a variety of services available when an aged care resident needs health care support, including on-site nursing, hospital in-reach programs, visiting GPs, palliative care, allied health and more.
The Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) provides an extra safety net for aged care services to use in emergency circumstances when in-reach and GP services aren’t available, such as at night or on weekends, and in rural areas.
This video produced by Ambulance Victoria in collaboration with the Victorian primary health networks explains how aged care staff can best utilise the VVED and other resources including our after-hours toolkit and the Palliative Care Advice Service.
