North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) is pleased to advise that the successful Doctors in Secondary Schools program has been funded to continue in participating schools beyond 2021.
The Victorian Budget 2021–22 has funded $43.4 million to extend the Doctors in Secondary Schools program in all participating schools across Victoria until 2025.
Since the program’s inception in 2017, general practitioners have delivered more than 41,000 primary care consultations with secondary school students. In April 2021, the program also passed another major milestone, with 10,500 referrals to services such as psychologists, pathology, and allied health professionals.
The continuation of the program will ensure continuity of care for students already accessing the service and address new student health needs. NWMPHN wishes to thank participating schools and clinics for their contribution, support and ongoing commitment to the health and wellbeing of young people in our region.
