Access to free mental health care for young people in Melbourne’s north-west will soon be easier, with a new headspace centre to open in Moonee Valley.

The service will offer free wraparound support to people aged between 12 and 25, including mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drug services, and work and study support.

It is funded by the Australian Government and will be operated by Orygen, following a commissioning process conducted by North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN).

headspace is the primary national mental health platform for young people who are experiencing, or at risk of, mild to moderate mental illness.

As well as bricks-and-mortar centres, the organisation also provides free, telephone and web-based services via 1800 650 890 and headspace.org.au

“There are more than 160 headspace services operating across Australia, and the Moonee Valley centre will be a very valuable addition to this network,” said Christopher Carter, NWMPHN chief executive officer.

“In our region, it will complement existing services located in Collingwood, Craigieburn, Glenroy, Melton, Sunshine and Werribee

“Orygen is an organisation with extensive experience in delivering mental health support for a wide range of people. They were selected to operate this important new facility after a rigorous tender and evaluation process.”

The Moonee Valley project now moves into its establishment phase. Doors are expected to open by early 2027.
