Opportunity for GPs to participate in oral cancer screening pilot

Dental Health Services Victoria invites general GPs to participate in a pilot project to improve oral cancer screenings for early detection and prevention of oral cancer.

Project overview

Aims: This project aims to increase oral cancer screening and referral rates in primary care settings, and evaluate the effectiveness of an enhanced training and support program.

GP participation: Participating GPs will complete an RACGP e-learning module on oral cancer screening, and integrate screenings into their day-to-day practice. They will have the opportunity to receive additional training and support. .

Data collection: We will collect data on the number of oral cancer screenings performed, risk factors assessed, and referrals made for suspected cases.

Benefits for GPs

Enhanced knowledge and skills: Participation will provide GPs with valuable RACGP training to improve their oral cancer screening and detection capabilities. This training is accredited for 1 Educational Activities RACGP CPD hour.

Potential for improved patient outcomes: GPs play a crucial role in early detection, which can improve patient outcomes and save lives.

Practice support: Selected practices may receive additional resources (including training/workshops) and support to assist with implementing screenings. This may include additional admin support, software/equipment support and/or 1:1 online/in-person session with oral medicine specialist.

How to participate

We invite GPs to express their interest in participating by completing the Expression of Interest (EOI) form.
