Earlier this month, a new Victorian model of care was launched to improve the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the hip and knee.
One in four joint replacement surgeries could be avoided and successfully treated with non-surgical methods. The new model seeks to reduce the demand for surgery and increase the number of patients who are managed in primary care and community settings.
General practitioners can login to HealthPathways Melbourne to access a suite of osteoarthritis pathways that have been developed in-line with the new model of care. These pathways provide best practice and accurate referral information for rheumatology and orthopaedic assessment, as well as referral information for allied health services.
