The Victorian Department of Health (the department) has been notified of new cases of mpox (monkeypox) in Victoria. Please refer to the Chief Health Officer Alert for further details.
Providers should be on alert for patients presenting with symptoms of mpox. Refer to the department’s Mpox (monkeypox) webpage for clinical guidance on symptoms, testing and public health notification requirements.
Current eligibility criteria for free mpox vaccination:
- All sexually active gay and bisexual men (cis and trans).
- Sexual partners of the above.
- Sex workers.
- Laboratory workers who analyse specimens from mpox cases.
- Healthcare workers at higher risk of exposure to patients with mpox (following risk assessment)
- Post exposure vaccination for high-risk close contacts of mpox cases (as advised by the department)
Any eligible patient who has not been vaccinated, or is due or overdue for their second mpox dose should be vaccinated as soon as possible to maximise protection against mpox.

Ordering JYNNEOS® vaccine
Registered providers can order JYNNEOS® vaccine through their Onelink online account. Refer to Ordering vaccines for further details.
GPs can register their interest to provide mpox vaccine by contacting their local Public Health Unit.
Reporting to the Australian Immunisation Register
Providers are encouraged to record all mpox vaccinations to the AIR.
