Merri Health has been Victorian Government endorsed and funded for five years to deliver Family Foundations to families in North and Western Melbourne.
The program was originally offered to parents who were pregnant or had a child under 12 months.
However, knowing how important the first 1,000 days of a child’s life are, and in line with the Australian Government’s Early Years Strategy, we are so excited to be raising the child age of eligibility to five and under.
Navigating parenting differences can contribute greatly to the deterioration in quality of relationship and consequential family breakdown. Family Foundations is an evidence-based intervention program that aims to strengthen the parenting team by building skills around:
- emotional regulation
- stress management
- conflict resolution
- attachment
- healthy communication
- co-parenting support
- problem solving.
The program involves weekly one-hour sessions delivered to both parents/caregivers by two professionals (social work or counsellor trained) using discussion-based activities, modelling, and skills practice.
There are 10 sessions in total, which can be attended online or in-person.
This program has an 80 per cent completion rate.
