Lort Smith Animal Hospital has put out a call for near or recently expired IV fluids so it can continue providing life-saving veterinary care.

Lort Smith is Australia’s largest not for profit animal hospital, and has been an integral part of Melbourne’s compassionate community since 1936. It provides comprehensive clinical services and surgeries for pets of all species, including rescue dogs and cats, and the beloved companions of people experiencing financial hardship.

Heavily reliant on volunteers and donations, the hospital is currently running very low on IV fluids, specifically Hartmans or Ringers sodium lactate and saline. (Glucose supplies, donated by local hospitals, are adequate.)

The hospital is calling on general practices in the region to donate any near-expiry or recently expired IV stock, so its 45 vets and 68 nurses can continue delivery critical care.

If your practice can help out, please contact Lort Smith head of pharmacy and procurement Catherine Greenough on 03 8379 1530, who will not only be very pleased to hear from you but will also arrange pick up and delivery, if needed.
