Important request for general practices to cc the Royal Women’s Hospital on pathology requests

20 June 2021  Primary Care Liaison Officer, The Royal Women's Hospital

The GP Liaison Unit at the Royal Women’s Hospital has provided information about pathology requests and its Electronic Medical Record.

For practice managers and GPs

As you know, a new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) was recently launched across the Women’s, the Royal Melbourne, Peter Mac and The Royal Children’s Hospitals.

Our new EMR has the ability to receive pathology results electronically from the following labs:

  • Dorevitch
  • Melbourne Pathology
  • Australian Clinical Labs

This is a great step forward for us, as results can “land” directly in the woman’s electronic medical record (rather than arriving by fax and requiring manual data entry into the EMR).

To enable this electronic transfer of results to our EMR, doctors in your practice must include RWH in the cc box on pathology request slip. (Please note: state RWH exactly – not “the Women’s” or the “Royal Women’s Hospital”)

From now on, if doctors in your practice are ordering tests for a patient (or a potential patient) of the Women’s, PLEASE add RWH in the cc box on your pathology request slip.

I know many GPs are frustrated by having to fax pages of results to us, and we are delighted to see that change is on the horizon. We look forward to a future without faxed results. Please support us to embrace this new option – please add RWH in the cc box on your request slips!
