‘What is NWMPHN?’ New animations explain our role
North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) has created three new animations that explain, in simple terms, our role in health care and the community.
The videos, produced alongside Punchy Digital Media, are titled:
- What is primary health care?
- What is NWMPHN?
- How does NWMPHN work with its community to make health care better?
The health care system can be hard to understand, but these animations aim to help viewers see how primary care fits into the bigger picture.
The videos also explain who what NWMPHN is and what it does for local people and the organisations with which it works.
The third animation focuses on People Bank, our register of residents willing to help improve the health of people in the north, west and central Melbourne area.
Each video will now be translated and voiced in five other languages. Click below to view them on our YouTube channel.
Community update
Cooling off: exploring the use of community cooling centres during heatwaves
As temperatures rise and we experience more extreme heat events, places such as air-conditioned libraries, shopping centres and community centres offer a place for people to cool down.
Such places are sometimes known as ‘cooling centres’ and the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) wants to know more about what older Victorians think about them, how they use them, and how heatwaves affect their health.
NARI call it the Cooling Off project.
If you are 65 or older, you’re invited to take part in the project by completing a short survey. If you want, you can also talk about the subject in more detail in a 45-60 minute interview. For more information please click here.

New resources to help patients through surgical journey
The Victorian Government has launched the My Surgical Journey website to help patients know what to expect before, during and after surgery.
It contains resources to guide people through each stage of the process, from initial conversations and decision-making through to recovery.
The site includes clear information in several languages, explainer videos, and checklists.
