PEPA and NWMPHN are collaborating to deliver a Palliative Approach workshop for GPs. The Palliative Approach aims to assist the coordination of care for patients through building capacity and improving networks between GPs and specialist palliative care services.

This tailored workshop will be facilitated by a medical practitioner with extensive palliative care experience. 
Key topics will include:

  • Principles of a Palliative Approach
  • Communication and Advance Care Planning
  • Symptom Assessment and Management
  • Terminal Phase Care
  • Local Service Networks and other resources
There will be opportunities for participant interaction throughout this session.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Apply key strategies that will assist in identifying patients who may be approaching the end of life.
  2. Describe the principles of end of life care including the assessment and management of pain and other common symptoms.
  3. Implement strategies for communicating with patients and families about prognosis, goals and preferences for care.
  4. Utilise resources that support general practitioners in providing patients with end of life care.
  5. Utilise self-care strategies that will assist general practitioners in managing conflicting personal issues.
