Supporting the workforce

Join NWMPHN in attending the Long COVID-19 education event. There is still much to learn about the long-term effects of COVID-19, but we know that many people are experiencing mental and/or physical ill health related to the disease. This webinar will present current research and management of Long COVID-19.

This interactive webinar is presented by a panel of experienced health professionals who are experts in their fields and present information using evidence-based research, hands-on experience and case studies on Long COVID-19.

The session will cover information on prevalence, risk factors and diagnostic criteria of Long Covid-19.

Information will include:

  • GP assessment of the patient after COVID-19
  • How to manage & refer patients with Long COVID-19
  • Resources to assist GPs and patients. 
  • What current research says about possible pathophysiology?
  • What respiratory conditions can occur after COVID-19/ specific post-acute sequalae? 
  • Neurological impact of long COVID-19  

Presenters:

Dr Elizabeth Williams

Dr Elizabeth Williams is the lead clinician heading up the COVID-safe group at a large private General Practice, PVH Medical, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. As Clinical Lead of the practice more broadly she also develops and delivers the practice’s education and quality improvement initiatives and is an experienced supervisor of registrars and medical students. Elizabeth is a Fellow of the RACGP and has worked as a GP for over 25 years. Her professional goal is to work holistically with her patients, to help them be as well as they can, both mentally and physically

Dr Alistair Miller 

Dr Alistair Miller is a Respiratory Physician at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. During 2020 he worked on the acute COVID-19 ward at RMH as the Clinical Lead for the Royal Melbourne Hospital Virtual Hospital as part of the North West Melbourne COVID + Care Pathway. He has contributed to the health pathways modules on acute and Long COVID-19 and sits on the Primary and Chronic Care Panel of the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce.

Dr Tissa Wijeratne

Senior Neurologist/Clinician-Scientist/ Advocate/ Global Health Expert/ Educator 

Professor Tissa Wijeratne is a highly qualified, world recognised senior Neurologist and clinician scientist interested in promoting brain health and preventing neurological disorders globally.. He is the Director and Chair, Department of Neurology and Stroke Services at Western Health.

As a result of attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • List the signs and symptoms experienced by patients with long COVID-19 and make appropriate referrals 
  • Describe risk and diagnostic factors of Long COVID-19
  • Identify resources to assist GPs and patients with Long COVID-19
  • Identify management of patients who remain symptomatic but no longer having COVID-19
