Presenter: Megan Reilly | Director Hands-On Infection Control
Megan has 34 years experience working in the area of infection prevention and control in the residential, community, office-based, acute, day surgery, early learning, justice and aviation settings. She completed her Masters in Health Science (Infection Control) in 2002 and has been the Director of Hands-On Infection Control since 1998, providing infection prevention consultancy, education and immunisation services to health and human service organisations throughout Australia.
Topic 3: Infection Prevention and Control Principles and Practices
Aim: Participants will be able to apply the principles of infection prevention and control to consumer care and support services in the residential aged care home setting.
Learning outcomes:
- Discuss the role of infection prevention and control.
- List the 6 links in the chain of transmission.
- State the key principles of infection prevention and control.
- Describe Standard and Transmission-Based Precautions work practices and relate to communicable diseases.
- Describe the why, when and how to perform effective hand and respiratory hygiene.
- Demonstrate how to don and doff Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Recognise worker health requirements.
- List the steps in occupational exposure management.
