Learning outcomes:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the auditory system
  • Perform a comprehensive ear health examination
  • Identify contraindications to proceed with hearing assessment
  • Perform otoscopy
  • Perform tympanometry
  • Understand the results post otoscopy assessment and tympanometry screening
  • Recognise ear abnormalities
  • Recognise the need to refer to a specialist
  • Give the patient a comprehensive explanation of the examination findings
  • Document the examination findings and outcome in the patient’s history
  • Perform a paediatric ear health assessment
  • Accurately identify a range of conditions of the auditory system
  • Apply a broad knowledge of strategies to manage a range of middle ear conditions
  • Provide client-centred education to support health promotion
  • Outline any follow-up required and make appropriate specialist referrals as needed.
