Overview

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) has engaged Roses in the Ocean to support the engagement of lived experience expertise in the design and delivery of local suicide prevention action through place-based suicide prevention trials in Melton/Brimbank and Macedon Ranges.

Roses in the Ocean will recruit and provide training, capacity building, mentoring and support to people with lived experience of suicide to empower them to fully and safely participate in a range of activities including the co-design and planning of suicide prevention programs and participation in local networks and advisory committees.

Outcomes

  • Identify potential candidates through collaboration with (NWMPHN), service providers, existing mental health consumer and carer groups/advocates to identify potential people with lived experience, who reflect the local communities
  • Conduct interviews with potential candidates to identify readiness to participate safely
  • Delivery of foundational training program to candidates to equip them to participate in aa range of activities
  • Support candidates to participate fully and safely through mentoring and support
