Macedon Ranges
Overview
This program was identified for investment by the place-based governance group to support those who have been bereaved by suicide and aims to link them with others.
A monthly community support groups met at a local venue to discuss the complexities of suicide and its associated grief. The night is conducted by a trained volunteer with lived experience of suicide bereavement. People are free to come and go as they need throughout the night.
This activity was part of the Macedon Ranges Place-Based Suicide Prevention Trials.
Outcomes
Outcomes of the project include:
- Creation and implementation of community peer support networks.
- The program received good uptake from community members.
- Sustainable, low cost implementation.
- The project is referrable and can be easily replicated in other catchment areas.
