Medicare Mental Health is free. You do not need an appointment or referral to access this service.
The Medicare Mental Health website is free, available 24/7, easy to access and will connect people to mental health programs and services that best suit their needs.

- Medicare Mental Health is not a crisis service. If you need immediate help please call triple zero (000) without delay.
- Medicare Mental Health is a consumer service. GPs and other referrers can contact the NWMPHN referral and access team directly to speak with our experienced mental health clinicians.
Background information
The Medicare Mental Health phone service was established by Victorian PHNs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It was previously known as HeadtoHelp and Head to Health. The Victorian PHNs also established a network of Head to Health Clinics, which continue to operate under this name.

You can always walk into these clinics without an appointment. However, if you’re not sure which is right for you or a loved one, please call Medicare Mental Health on 1800 595 212. You will speak with an expert in the local mental health system who can ensure you get the right type of support, in the right place and at the right time. This may be at one of the clinics mentioned above, or a different one, depending on your location and needs.

There are three Head to Health Clinics in the NWMPHN region:

Head to Health Clinics provide access to multidisciplinary teams of mental health workers, including psychologists, nurses, social workers and peer workers. They provide a flexible model of care tailored to the person, recognising that people have different mental health care needs at different times.
