Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the leading infectious cause of childhood disabilities, such as sensorineural hearing loss, epilepsy, and cerebral palsy, in Australia.
Recent European guidelines have changed to recommend universal first trimester CMV screening to identify maternal infection early and facilitate timely antenatal interventions to reduce congenital infection.
We are asking GPs to complete a 10-minute survey to evaluate whether routine CMV screening in pregnancy would be acceptable and feasible to implement if Australia were to introduce routine antenatal CMV screening.
The study findings will help inform future health policy in antenatal care.
This research study has received ethical approval from University of Melbourne Human Research Ethics Committee (#2025-31079-65660-4).
GPs who complete the survey will have the option to go into a draw to win one of three $100 gift cards.
