North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) is integrating suicide prevention and support (SPS) intake into its central mental health referral and access system.

This means that all mental health and suicide prevention referrals can now be directed to a single secure fax number – (03) 9348 0750 – or sent by password protected PDF to referralandaccess@nwmphn.org.au

This ensures a common pathway for all clinicians referring into any of NWMPHN’s CAREinMIND services. Previously, SPS referrals were handled by Lifeline.

Clinicians with questions about SPS referrals can call the NWMPHN mental health referral and access team on (03) 9088 4277. The number is staffed Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The previous phone number for SPS inquiries – 1300 032 192 – will soon be switched off.

The old SPS fax – (03) 8080 8948 – will continue to operate during the transition period to ensure no referrals are missed.

To make a referral, use NWMPHN’s Mental Health Service Referral Form in your practice software, or you can download it here.

Please note this is not a crisis service. If crisis support is required, please call 000 or your local emergency service. Clinicians seeking urgent support options should visit health.vic.gov.au/mentalhealthservices
