Nominations now open for 2024 PenCS Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2024 PenCS Awards, which celebrate the achievements of healthcare practices and networks that use the PenCS health informatics platform to improve the health of their communities.

The 2023 PenCS Awards were celebrated at NIDA Theatres in Kensington, Sydney with presenters including: Dr Michael Bonning – President of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Professor Meredith Makeham – Associate Dean for Community and Primary Health Care with the Faculty of Medicine and Health at The University of Sydney, Dr Amandeep Hansra – Founder of Creative Careers in Medicine, Dr Kean-Seng Lim – Chief Medical Advisor PenCS, Terese Abbey – Volunteer for the Australian Patients Association and Dr Thomas Wenkart – Chairman/CEO/Founder at Macquarie Health Corp.

2024 winners will be announced at a gala ceremony, celebrating their achievements and acknowledging primary health networks and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations who contribute to driving quality improvement to improve community health outcomes.

PenCS’ CEO, Edweana Wenkart, said: “The PenCS Awards recognise innovation in health informatics in primary care and acknowledge the healthcare providers who work hard every day to build a healthy Australia. In 2023 we were honoured to receive entries from across Australia that culminated in 8 Award winners and a new individual Award for ‘Digital Innovation’. We look forward to continued success, recognising outstanding achievements in primary care in 2024 and beyond.”

2023 PenCS Award Winners included:

  • Alpha Medical Centre (NSW) – Quality Improvement Initiative of the Year Award
  • Growlife Medical (QLD) – Patient-Centered Care Award
  • Gunyah of Wellness (QLD) -‘Closing the Gap’ Award
  • Our Medical Crows Nest (NSW) – Research in General Practice Award
  • Rosedale Medical Practice (NSW) – Sustainable Business Award
  • Silky Oaks Medical Practice (QLD) – Data Quality Award
  • Sunraysia Medical Centre (VIC) – Data-driven Clinical Excellence Award
  • Dr Janice Tan (NSW) – Digital Innovation Award (Sponsored by Creative Careers in Medicine)

The RACGP Standards for General Practice (5th Edition) states that “making quality improvements to the practice’s structures, systems and clinical care that are based on the practice’s information and data will lead to improvements in patient safety and care.” The effective use of health informatics can help practices improve their ability to deliver quality improvement in their practice and improve quality care and patient outcomes.

  4. Research in General Practice Award
  5. Data Quality Award
  6. Sustainable Business Award
  7. Patient-centred Care Award
  8. Digital Innovation Award

Nominations are open

Nominations are now open and all nominees must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Awards are open to Aboriginal Member Services or General Practices with a current accreditation through Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL).
  • Nominees must have an active software licence with PenCS such as Practice Cloud, CAT, Topbar or Practice Cloud.
  • The nominator must be an authorised representative from either a Primary Health Network, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, Aboriginal Member Service or General Practice.
  • Nominators are only allowed to nominate organisations once per award category. If a nominator requests to nominate the same organisation for another award category, they must have substantial difference with their nomination question responses in order to be accepted.

Nominations close at 11:59pm (AEST) on Monday 30th September 2024.
