The human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine protects against HPV-related cancers and diseases, including almost all cases of cervical cancer and genital warts. It is free for Australians aged 12-25 through the National Immunisation Program.

Yet data from the Annual Immunisation Coverage Report shows that one in seven 15-year-olds in Victoria have missed their scheduled dose, increasing their risk of these diseases in the future.

Cancer Council Victoria has launched a new campaign encouraging young Victorians who have missed getting the HPV vaccine in school to catch up as soon as possible through their doctor or local council immunisation service.

Health professionals play an important role in supporting HPV vaccination coverage. Help to promote HPV vaccination in your clinic by:

  • Speaking to your patients about the HPV vaccine.
  • Checking your patients’ HPV vaccination status and offering a catch-up session.
