Melbourne Primary Care Network (MPCN), the operating organisation of North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN), has strengthened its Board through a combination of continuity and renewal.

Professor Lena Sanci and Elizabeth Kennedy have been reappointed as Non-Executive Directors, reflecting the Board’s confidence in their leadership.
MPCN Board Chair Damian Ferrie said both directors had made valuable contributions since joining the Board in 2024.
“Lena and Elizabeth have brought significant expertise, insight and commitment to the Board over the past two years,” Mr Ferrie said.

“Their backgrounds in clinical leadership, governance, risk management and law have strengthened our work and we are delighted they will continue to contribute.”

The Board also appointed Professor Andrew Way AM as a Non-Executive Director.
Professor Way brings extensive executive and governance experience across the health sector in Australia and the United Kingdom, including more than 15 years as Chief Executive of Alfred Health. He is the Chair of HealthShare Victoria and holds an Adjunct Clinical Professorship at Monash University. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019 for services to medical research administration.
“Andrew is one of Australia’s most respected health leaders and brings a wealth of experience in health system leadership, improvement and research,” Mr Ferrie said.
Mr Ferrie said the appointments reflected a commitment to maintaining a strong skills-based Board through thoughtful succession planning and renewal.
He also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Non-Executive Director Dr Anthony Bartone, whose term concluded during the Board renewal process.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to sincerely thank Anthony for his service and commitment to Melbourne Primary Care Network,” Mr Ferrie said.

“Anthony has been a passionate advocate for primary care and for the health needs of our communities. He has made a valued contribution during his time on the Board, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
“Together, these changes reflect a considered approach to renewal that balances continuity, fresh perspectives and the skills needed to guide the organisation through a rapidly evolving health care environment.”
