Hosted by the Australian Prostate Centre, urological surgeon Dr Fairleigh Reeves will provide an overview of best-practice assessment for acute renal colic, when urgent urological intervention is recommended, together with evidence-based metabolic and dietary prevention strategies. Conservative and surgical treatments will be explained including when one is recommended over the other.

Case studies will be used for context.

Learning outcomes:

  • Summarise the recommended work up for patients presenting with suspected kidney stones.
  • List the red flags for patients presenting with kidney stones that warrant urgent referral to a urological surgeon or to an emergency department.
  • Counsel patients by providing practical advice and strategies for lifestyle and diet modifications.
