Join NWMPHN and expert speakers for this multidisciplinary collaborative online education series to improve primary care capability for assessing and managing mental health problems in children and adolescents.

This interactive forum will focus on case studies and problems-based learning surrounding various topics on child and adolescent mental health and development.

The first forum will be centred around anxiety and depression in child and adolescents and will feature diverse case studies these topics.

It is open to GPs, practice nurses, psychologists, paediatricians, mental health clinicians, allied health and social workers.

This forum will not be recorded.

Speakers:

Practising as a GP at Goonawarra Medical Centre for the past 11 years, Dr Sahar Iqbal's areas of interest are child and adolescent mental health and chronic disease management.

Dr Chidambaram Prakash is a senior consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He has over 20 years’ experience. 

Prakash has worked in, and managed, general and specialist clinics within child psychiatry in metropolitan and regional public mental health services.  


Learning outcomes:

  • Confidently assess and identify depression in in children and adolescents
  • Discuss best-practice management for depression in children and adolescents
  • Evaluate case studies to improve clinical decision-making 
  • Communicate effectively with families, schools, and multidisciplinary teams, including in culturally sensitive contexts
