Australia now reports the highest incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in young adults worldwide. This emerging trend has significant implications for general practice, where younger adults often present with non‑specific gastrointestinal symptoms that may be overlooked or attributed to benign conditions.
This presentation will explore the evolving landscape of young‑onset colorectal cancer, including the current evidence on underlying causes and risk factors—from genetic predisposition to lifestyle influences and environmental exposures. We will examine the unique diagnostic and clinical challenges associated with this age group, particularly in the context of limited routine screening options and common delays in recognition.
Presented by Epworth Gastroenterologist and Advanced Endoscopist, Dr Oliver Cronin.
