Mental Health Expert Advisory Group: Expression of Interest

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network is seeking expressions of interest to join our Mental Health Expert Advisory Group.

North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) is an independent not for profit organisation working to improve health outcomes for people accessing mental health services in the central, northern and western suburbs of Melbourne.

The MH Expert Advisory Group (MH EAG) is an important mechanism for NWMPHN to engage with leaders and experts in the region to inform and advise its work in mental health commissioning. NWMPHN is seeking expressions of interest from key mental health stakeholders who are working in, or who are passionate about improving health outcomes for people with mental illness and local service design to join our MH EAG.

Help shape the future of mental health services in our region

The role of the MH EAG is to provide expert advice related to:

  • The way we inform, educate, and engage relevant stakeholders.
  • The way we engage and connect with community and sector networks to ensure breadth and depth of engagement and insight across the CBD, northern and western suburbs of Melbourne.
  • The development of NWMPHN’s commissioning and other work that aligns with the quintuple aim of improved health equity, health outcomes, cost effectiveness, patient/consumer experience, and provider experience, for people with mental illness and their carers.
  • Key issues and emerging opportunities for the MH sector and consumers to support planning, and where necessary, advocacy.

The role of the MH EAG is particularly important for shaping the work that we do, including providing unique and strategic insight into the experiences for people accessing MH services across the catchment and developing principles and mechanisms for engaging local service providers.

Who can join?

NWMPHN is committed to ensuring diverse and broad representation across the MH EAG membership. We are therefore seeking expressions of interest from the following:

  • Psychiatrists with experience in public mental health, a thorough understanding of the primary care sector and experience working with primary care providers, and experience in governance and/or policy settings.

We are looking for expressions of interest from people who:

  • Are seeking to improve care for patients presenting with mental health concerns.
  • Can support us to drive innovation and improvement in service delivery to enhance primary care responses to improve health outcomes for people with mental illness.
  • Are willing to share, collaborate and contribute to NWMPHNs understanding of mental health and service navigation within the catchment.
  • Embrace the principles of safe, coordinated, accessible, and person-centred care
  • Have strong community links and networks.
  • Understand the population health needs of the CBD, western and northern suburbs.

What is involved?

Members are expected to attend four meetings (each meeting is two hours in duration) and are encouraged to provide feedback and engage in out of session discussions. MH EAG members are eligible to be remunerated for their time in line with NWMPHN’s Stakeholder Reimbursement Policy.
