Overview

This funding is from the Youth Mental Health: headspace demand management and enhancement program and contributes to the Australian Government’s implementation of mental health reforms.

Orygen, as the lead agency for headspace Melton, has been awarded a grant under this funding arrangement to undertake a project to reduce the wait times for young people seeking to access headspace Melton services, and to build the cultural capability of staff to offer services for First Nations young people and their families.

Outcomes

Reduced the wait times for young people wishing to access headspace Melton services. This will be achieved by embedding a newly created innovative intake strategy called the Family Assertive Support Team (FAST) clinic.

The cultural capability of headspace Melton staff improved to reduce barriers for First Nations young people in accessing mental health services. This was achieved through a multidisciplinary approach that provides a holistic, culturally-informed model of care.
