Overview

The Enrich project provides mental health services to young people presenting with complex mental ill-health and is delivered by Orygen and Sunbury Cobaw Community Health. It aims to provide enhanced access to medical care, care coordination and evidence-based psychological interventions.

It is designed for young people aged 12 to 24 living in Sunbury or Macedon Ranges local government areas who present with or at risk of moderate to severe mental health issues and can be appropriately supported in primary care. The range of mental health issues that may be addressed includes:

  • depression
  • anxiety
  • early psychosis
  • eating disorders
  • personality disordered behaviours
  • deliberate self-harm
  • thoughts of suicide.

The service is provided free of charge.

Outcomes

By focusing on early intervention, the Enrich project improves the identification and management of mental health issues at crucial stages, leading to timely and effective support. This proactive approach ensures that young people receive the help they need before conditions escalate, promoting better overall mental health and well-being.

One of the project’s significant achievements is its ability to increase accessibility to mental health services. By offering in-home assessments and support, Enrich effectively removes barriers that might prevent young people from attending traditional clinic-based appointments. This accessibility is particularly beneficial for those who find it challenging to engage with conventional therapy settings.

The program’s impact extends to improved mental health outcomes. Participants often experience a reduction in symptoms of conditions such as depression, anxiety, and early psychosis. The program’s model supports effective management of these early-stage conditions, with the flexibility to continue care if required, helping to sustain long-term mental health improvements.

Enrich also strengthens support systems for young people and their families. By integrating resources from Orygen and Sunbury Cobaw Community Health, the program enhances the overall network of support, ensuring a comprehensive approach to mental health care. This integration leads to better coordination and access to additional resources and services.
