The Australian Dementia Network is seeking GPs to participate in an Alzheimer’s disease study.
The extended study is titled ‘Evaluating the impact of the Roche Elecsys pTau217 blood-based biomarker for Alzheimer’s disease on clinician diagnostic confidence and management in a Primary Care setting: A before and after study’.
This study, led by GPs with a special interest in dementia, is an excellent opportunity for physicians to gain experience with providing the blood test and interpreting results. The study will examine the level of GP understanding of mild cognitive impairment and dementia, and will also assess the impact on diagnosis and confidence in GPs’ practices.
The test is provided to participating GPs at no cost for the duration of the study.
As increasing public awareness rises about new diagnostic blood tests, clinicians should be prepared for patients who may be concerned about their cognition and symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease to seek out the blood test.
While the study is open to all GPs, the Australian Dementia Network is seeking those from Newcastle, Adelaide and Melbourne in particular.
