A new campaign launched this week aims to help people who live in and around Melbourne find local dementia services and support.
Developed by North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN) in collaboration with Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network, the directory streamlines the search for local organisations offering care, respite, recreational activities, and social support for those affected by dementia. It complements existing resources available through My Aged Care and the NDIS and is one of several local dementia directories in Victoria and Tasmania.
“Dementia is a slow-developing condition for which there is no cure,” says NWMPHN Chief Executive, Christopher Carter.
“It can take a huge toll on people with the condition – and on the family, friends and carers who love and support them. By pulling all the locally relevant information into one place, finding and accessing all sorts of different supports is at least now faster and easier.”
The directory also connects people with national helplines, and includes easy-to-understand information about what to expect after a dementia diagnosis.
GPs and other service providers can use the added information sheets to help patients. They are available in English, Greek, Italian, Simplified Chinese, and Vietnamese.
