Overview

The Zone is an intersectional care coordination AOD program designed for young people and their families. Led by the Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS) in collaboration with Odyssey Victoria and Drummond Street Services, the program helps clients reassess their substance use and improve their overall health and wellbeing. It focuses on individuals from African, Pasifika, or LGBTIQI+ communities. Delivered across the NWMPHN catchment, The Zone offers a comprehensive ‘whole of region’ response to support AOD needs and comorbidities of people within these communities.

This program assists young people, families and friends who are experiencing concerns related to alcohol or other drug use. It offers: one-to-one support, group work support, virtual support (telehealth) and day stay rehabilitation.

Objectives

  • Intersectional model of care: Design and develop evidence-informed models of care to provide appropriate support to identified communities.
  • Culturally appropriate: Tailor the program to meet the needs of populations who may be at risk of missing out on care.
  • Promote accessibility: Ensure services are accessible across the NWMPHN catchment area.
  • Integrate support: Coordinate care with other providers, particularly in mental health and primary care, to offer integrated treatment.
  • Build evidence: Develop and share an evidence base to inform and improve service delivery throughout the NWMPHN catchment.
