Overview
headspace provides early intervention mental health services to people aged 12 to 25.
headspace centres provide free mental, physical and sexual health services, alcohol and other drug services, and work-and-study support.
The centres are operated by lead agencies along with a consortium of partners. The lead agencies in the NWMPHN catchment are Orygen and Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS).
These are six headspace centres operating with the NWMPHN region, located in Collingwood, Craigieburn, Glenroy, Melton, Sunshine and Werribee.
All headspace services are funded by the Australian Government; administration of funding is carried out by NWMPHN in its region.
In December 2024, the Federal government announced plans to provide funding to establish a new headspace centre in the Moonee Valley local government area. It is expected to be operational in the 2026-27 financial year.
Outcomes
headspace centres provide early access to support in a safe and inviting environment.
Central to headspace goals is the reduction in symptoms of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, alongside enhanced emotional resilience and the ability to manage stress.
Additionally, the service aims to support development of essential coping skills in young people, fostering greater self-management and encouraging proactive help-seeking behaviour.
