Seeking GPs to improve the design of consumer-focused pathology reports

Patient engagement is a vital part of providing people-centred health care.

However, many patients without medical training struggle to understand the complex information presented in pathology reports.

St Vincent’s Pathology, Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery, University of Melbourne and Swinburne University of Technology are collaborating on a research project that aims to design pathology reports that are easier for consumers to understand.

We are seeking volunteers for an implementation focus group to discuss issues surrounding the current delivery workflow for pathology reports.

This focus group will involve health care professionals and members of expert groups who understand pathology processes and the current report systems. We are also inviting members of the public to participate in this focus group.

The focus group is online and will take no more than 90 minutes.

Health care professionals and members of expert groups will be compensated with a $100 pre-paid Mastercard to thank you for your time.

Please email Dr Sanne Peters, University of Melbourne, at sanne.peters@unimelb.edu.au by 31 July 2026 if you would like to volunteer for the implementation focus group or if you want to find out more about the project.

This project is funded by Community Grants Hub, Department of Health and Aged Care: Quality Use of Diagnostics, Therapeutics and Pathology Program.
