Western Health is excited to share that the new Footscray Hospital, located at 89 Ballarat Rd, will commence clinical services on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
The original Footscray Hospital, located at 160 Gordon Street, will close on this date.
Extensive planning and readiness activities have been undertaken to ensure a smooth and safe transition to the new site.
At 8am on 18 February, the original Footscray Hospital emergency department (ED) will close to new patients.
From 8am, anyone requiring emergency care should go directly to the new Footscray Hospital ED at 20 Geelong Rd. A vehicle drop-off zone is clearly signed in front of the ED entrance.
To support the safe transfer of patients on 18 February, Western Health asks that members of the public do not visit the new or original Footscray Hospital on this day, unless they need emergency care.
Immediate family members and carers of patients being transferred on this day will receive further information in the week before the move.
