The Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) information on HealthPathways Melbourne has been updated to reflect the new protocols that came into force on 1 November, 2025.
MHTPs must now be prepared and reviewed by the patient’s MyMedicare-registered practice or usual GP, regardless of registration. This is to facilitate continuity of care.
MHTP review and mental health consultation item numbers have been removed from the MBS. GPs must now use time-tiered attendance items for reviews or for general mental health support.
Any MHTP referral dated prior to 1 November 2025 will remain valid until all treatment services specified have been delivered.
