Overview

Rainbow Recovery is an alcohol and other drugs (AOD) program designed for individuals from LGBTQIA+ communities in the inner and inner west regions on Melbourne. Delivered by Thorne Harbour Health, it focuses on improving the health and mental well-being of individuals through accessible, innovative, and evidence-based care.

Rainbow Recovery delivers these services:

  • brief intervention
  • individual and family AOD counselling
  • group work
  • case work and coordination.

Outcomes

Specialised therapeutic groups: Designed to address specific topics and themes of cohorts within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Family support: Extended support to families of people experiencing AOD-related concerns.

LGBTQIA+ health literacy and promotion: Engaged and presented at several workforce development sessions with external organisations with a view to increasing LGBTQIA+ and trans and gender-diverse awareness as well as capacity-building across the AOD sector.

Mental health and primary care integration: Provided linkages and referrals to aligning services ensuring a wraparound service that includes addressing the comorbidities of mental health and primary care.
