Climate change is a major health threat, indeed it has been described as the greatest threat to human health for this century. This activity introduces general practitioners to the health effects of climate change. It outlines how anthropogenic global warming is changing our climate and how this change then affects human health. It looks at opportunities for GPs for adaptation and mitigation of the climate crisis, focusing on what we can do regarding our patients, our practices, our communities, and ourselves.

- Describe how burning fossil fuels causes global warming
- Identify three common health impacts of climate change
- Describe which groups are at the greatest risk of heat related illness
- Describe which groups are at the greatest risk of smoke inhalation from bushfires
- Identify the mental health impacts of climate change

Dr Kate Wylie is a GP who is passionate about climate action to improve health. Based in Adelaide, Dr Wylie is an active member of RACGP Specific Interests Climate and Environmental Medicine and works with Doctors for the Environment Australia facilitating its After Hours webinar series.
